I’ve been trying to replace kitchen lights for a long time with smart light bulbs.. The problem is that in the kitchen I don’t have a normal lamp, I imagine it’s the same thing that happens to most of you, to the 11 you read to me, but I have the famous downlights that light the kitchen as if it were a football field when they’re on… and, obviously, they consume the same light as the football field.
My downlights were gd24d bulbs of 26W… x6!! that is, 156W in addition to what the transformers consumed… so Imagine the energy consumption (this has been the excuse I have put at home to change them) and the environmental footprint! (this too). On the other hand, rare was the month that no light bulbs melted. I don’t know what the milks were but they couldn’t stand anything. I also tested with low-consumption bulbs and then with led bulbs, but the same result: they were fused every little time… plus those of leds were ‘fused badly’ and blinking or blinking only half a light bulb… a brace.
I’ve been looking for homekit-compatible downloads for a while but they don’t exist yet.… I also thought about putting the downlights on those leds that don’t wear a bulb, they just light up whole and it’s supposed to be remove the original and put those in ‘plug’ n ‘play’ mode, so I could control them with a Shelly. This was going to be the solution chosen until I found…
Gd24-d to e27 adapters
Yes! I found it in Amazon. these very cheap adapters and very very Chinese (in fact, they are so Chinese that some came with the sticks folded, so I bought 2 boxes of 4 for my 6 bulbs) that are inserted into the gd24d shell as if a bulb were treated and threaded e27 So you can put any light bulb on.
The installation is non-existent, you simply have to remove the original bulb and put the set of bulb e27 + adapter. You don’t even need to remove the original transformer, even if you take it better and save some more energy consumption.
In this way, not only did I remove the problem of the molten light bulbs, but If you put a smart bulb and a Shelly or a smart switch you can do many more things… guess what I did? I could choose the cheap solution or the very bad one… because that:
Indeed, bulbs e27 Philips Hue Ambiance 8W that allow to change the warmth of the light according to the time of day and the Aqara smartswitch.
Automations and shortcuts
In addition, I’ve been able to automate several things I didn’t have before. and that I could not have done with a download no-smart even if it didn’t melt:
– When the last person leaves the house the kitchen lights are automatically turned off: We had not had many times to leave the lights on as the kitchen is next to the entrance… but now I don’t even have to extend my hand to touch the switch! With this saving energy expenditure of mine as I can have my hands in my pockets xD
– If someone turns on the kitchen light at night, only 3 of the 6 light bulbs turn on.: I couldn’t have done it if I wasn’t ‘smart’. It could have put 3 Shellys, configured the switch in ‘detached’ mode and with the virtual device create a rule for the
night and another for the day… but this has been much easier.
– If someone leaves the light in the kitchen on, it goes out alone at 10 minutes.: for this, take into account the motion sensor right at the entrance of the kitchen. If someone’s been through that sensor and the light’s off, it’s on its own. If someone’s been through that sensor and the light’s on, it’s off by itself at 10 minutes.
– I could have set up the motion sensor to light the kitchen light if someone went through the night.… but can you imagine it’s going on in the middle of the night and I get up in the morning and it’s on? What a bad thing, I’d have to check the cameras to see if anyone… and another bad roll has happened.
or thinking that from time to time I’m going to be the typical girl in a nightgown with the long hair that stares at the camera…
All this more or less automatically, but of course you can turn on the light from the mobile (the bulb you want or turn on the whole kitchen), ask Siri to turn on the kitchen lights or touch the wall switch (yes, as in the last century, I don’t know who might like this!).
I have calculated that with what I’m going to save in light by reducing from 26W per bulb to 8W per bulb, the price of kWh and what the light bulbs and the Aqara switch have cost me, in about 47 years I will have the installation amortized. Suck that, home economy!
