Deep Web, Dark Web and TOR Network: Is it illegal to connect?

The other day I was talking to some friends about what the dark web is and how to connect to it. As soon as you talk about the Tor network, the deep web or the dark web, right away. is thought to be dark and dangerous places where, just by connecting, you’re already doing something illegal… something like going into the canteen of the western movies where the pianist stops playing and everyone looks at you as soon as you walk in the door because you’re the stranger. Nothing further than reality. But first of all we’re going to identify and name each of these networks:

Differences between deep web, Tor network, dark web,…

Even if it’s a little manida, I’m going to use the typical iceberg photo:

As you see, The web we usually know, which Google takes us to, is the top of the whole. Here we find all the Internet pages we know from more or less useful websites, blogs (yes, even if of more or less illegal things), YouTube, even German porn and videos on how to make a ganzúa! Basically web pages we came to with our IP address to identify us.

Then we found the deep web, that includes services that are not found on Google how they can be chat services (IRC), file transmission by p2p, BitTorrent or FTP, etc., in addition to pages not indexed on Google because they are legal or bad taste. We also come to these services with our IP address.

And we finally found the dark web, which are basically networks other than those we access through some tool like a proxy or a special browser, such as the Tor network. The Tor network is simply an alternative network to which we know but which has the premise to preserve privacy and anonymicity of users… the problem is in the very nature of men, so instead of using this network to do good, denounce injustices without anyone can limit your freedom of expression or share and enjoy a decentralized network that is not

under the control of any corporation or government, we use it to send drugs home (such as the service that Silk Road gave), distribute malware or sell vulnerabilities and viruses to the best bidder (pAging with cryptomonedas to preserve anonymity, of course, we’ll talk in the next post of the cryptomonedas).

Don’t go to believe that everything we found on the Tor network is bad, fortunately. We can also find many security forums, discussions about vulnerabilities that have not yet been published, hacking leaks, documentation that is not allowed to be posted on the normal network, software, etc., even Facebook is available through the Tor network. Not that it’s more or less dangerous than the normal network. since in this also there are very dark corners (like some subforums of 4chan or

«noopener» target = «_ blank» > foro), but the dark web has the advantage of being anonymous, so no one can identify us directly.

How anonymous is the Tor network?

When we talk about the Tor network we don’t mean the character Elsa Pataki’s husband playsbut to the acronym of The Onion Router and this reference to onion (Onion in English, in case you are more than French;) refers to the different layers of encryption that pass through a connection. To understand, when from home you want to connect to this blog, you put the address in your browser or you search it on Google and your computer is connected directly using your IP address… however, when you connect to the re

d Tor, your computer connects to another computer, and this one to another, and this one to another server that is located in Malaysia, and this one to another in China, and this one to another in… and when you’re already chorropotohundreds of jumps, the traceability is lost and it’s impossible to undo all those jumps to know who you really are. and get to your IP address origin.

I’m very curious… are you sure you can’t interfere with me?

Well, curiosity is the first step. You know I believe in education rather than the blockade, so I think everyone should know what the dark web is and then decide if it wants to connect or if this network simply brings nothing to it and all its needs are covered by the network accessible from Google. Let’s see what we need… but no, don’t worry they can’t get you. meddle by connecting you to the Tor network:

There’s various ways to connect to the network but The simplest is using a USB Unbreakable with a small Linux distribution called Talis. I mean, following the instructions available on the Talis website you can create a USB that You can click on your computer, turn it on, and it will start directly with Talis. where you can see a browser already ready to connect with the Tor network, you will simply have to type the address of the p

Agina… which you don’t think is going to be so easy because on this network the websites follow a different pattern and have no clear name but a kind of hash, like an alphanumeric code.

The good thing about this distribution is that Once you finish the network ride, you just have to restart your computer and remove the USB to boot as always… and it’s over, no sign of your connection.

I’m already connected… and now what?

Good question since in Tor there is no Google to ask you things, but there are some search engines that we can use:

– Duck Duck Go (http: / / 3g2up4pq6kufc4m.onion): It is the search engine par excellence, more or less like the ‘Google’ of the Tor network.

– TORCH (http: / / xmh57jrzrnw6insl.ion /): Another search engine, I prefer it because it indexes more specialized content.

If you’re very curious, here are some websites to see what you can find on the Tor network:

– Arms store: http: / / tuu66yxvrnn3of7l.ion /

– Drug shop: http: / / fzqnrlcvhkgbdwx5.ion /

– Pirate software: http: / / 2gxxzwnj52jutais.ion /

* Some of the links may not work at the time you visit the page as it is common for Tor to change the addresses.

What about my day to day?

Well… unless you’re a revolutionary journalist and you want to publish articles that no one can censor you. I don’t think it’s a practical use for day-to-day at our level. I usually enter the Tor network looking for something very concrete about attacks that have not yet been documented, or detect any new threats that are being made, or buy ammunition for the machine gun I have on the balcony in case the zombie Apocalypse arrives.… but little more. Even if, I think everyone should know what the dark web is and what things can be found in this dark area of the Internet to decide if it gives you any of this
