Last week we talked about the possibility of using a HomeKit compatible sensor and using the HomePod as a speaker for the sound of the alarm.
This automation gives us a quite basic but functional functionality. It is clear that the poop can say ‘Hey Lola, turn off the music‘and stop the sound… although we can always deactivate the’Hey Lola‘of that HomePod near the door where the alarm is ringing.
Configure the Aqara bridge to work as an alarm
The basic functionality is well and can be useful, but if you have the Aqara bridge, any of them, you will have seen that the options we have since the Xiaomi Home app or from the Aqara app are much more extensive. We can configure multiple sensors like
Fire extinguishers, we can give a courtesy time so much to go home without the alarm ringing (what we were saying the other day of going up from the garage without cover and not getting to sound) to have a courtesy time at the output so that the motion sensor, in case it is configured as a trigger, does not detect us leaving the house and the alarm starts to sound.
As I told you before, this can be done with any model of Aqara from the oldest who still have the Xiaomi logo as with the most modern that could be the M1S and the M2.
Different alarm modes on the M1S and M2 bridge
But in new models there is a very cool functionality, and it is the possibility to create different alarm scenarios: by default we have 4 modes: the 24×7 mode disconnected where it does nothing, a way out of home, a way at home and a way at night.
It may seem silly but it’s actually a very useful thing, imagine for example that we live in a 2-storey house, We can set up for the night to jump the alarm if the sensors at the bottom detect an open door or window, movement, etc… but the sensors at the top would not make the alarm jump because we are and we can go to the bathroom or move between rooms. However, when we’re out of the house, any sensor can make the alarm start to sound, whatever the plant is.
I don’t live in a 2-storey house and still use the modes.. In this image you can see that in the ‘Get out of the house’ mode I have 2 sensors like triggers, the entrance door and the gallery door… but however when I’m at home it’s possible that I open the gallery door, so in that case I just want it to sound if the street door is opened.
The only inconvenience of the Aqara bridge alarm is that If you have bridge M2 that has no speaker, the sound has a rather low volume, so if you have the bridge a little far from the entrance, it may sound and no one hears it, so it would not serve as a deterrent to the cacos. If you have the M1S or similar with the speaker it will sound a little stronger… but the same happens, if you have it far from the entrance because it will be heard ‘from afar’ and it will not do its function properly.
Alarm volume
The solution goes through set the alarm to make the sound come out by a HomePod. If you have several HomePods you can c
to go out for all of them, of course.
The procedure is similar to the one I told you in the previous entry, as it is not done from the setting of the bridge in the application of Agara or Xiaomi Home, but it is configured from the Home app. It’s a shame but this can’t be done directly from the Home app, where we’ll see the different modes but we can’t set them up.
To do this, we must first set up the triggers, courtesy time, etc in the Aqara or Xiaomi Home app, as well as the different modes.
Once the sensors are configured that will make the alarm jump, we must open the Home app and create a new Automation. On this occasion we must select as Event ‘By controlling an accessory ‘, instead of’ When a sensor detects something ‘ Which is what we were doing at the previous entrance. Once here, we will see the list of all our accessories and we have to choose the alarm from the Aqara bridge, which once we have integrated with HomeKit will appear in the House app as’ Security System ‘.
Now we’ll see 3 options, ‘It’s activated’, ‘It’s disconnected’ and ‘It’s connected’. Now I explain to you each, but you know what this means? That We can put the sound ‘tweet’ that made the old car alarms for when the alarm goes off! I told you I was gonna find a way to use this sound because I love it! Jajajaja
The thing is, for the functionality we’re looking for right now. We have to choose the option ‘It is activated’. The Hours and People give us a little the same, as the real triggers are set up in the Xiaomi Home or Aqara App and we will be the ones who activate the mode manually, so if we activate the alarm at Night Mode it’s because it’s at night and the condition here doesn’t matter… or if we activate the alarm with the ‘Out of Home’ mode it’s because we’re out of home, you don’t need the Home App to check if there’s someone at home or not.
When giving to Next we can select the HomePod or HomePod for which we want the alarm to sound when it is activated and, from here, we simply have to follow the steps as in the previous entry, select the Audio to play, look for an album of sounds or noises that we find appropriate (I have a friend who sought dog barks and for the HomePod sound VERY real) and remember also to play the sound in loop as it lasts a few seconds and select the custom volume of the alarm to sound to all milk regardless of how the volume of HomePod at that time.
Finally we can disable the automation past X minutes as we do with the rest of our automations.
Easy, right? Then We can complicate everything you want, add automations to set up the alarm automatically when our phones are out of the house, deactivate it when we’re getting closer., etc., although I think the interesting thing about setting up the alarm so you can set it up and disarm it manually. Well, You can always create an NFC automation to set up the alarm when you approach the mobile to a NFC sticker as we counted a few months ago.You can see it in this little video:
https: / / www.youtube.com / watch? v = _ 600q6OkyW4 [/ embed]
Remember also that this automation will send us a notification in case the alarm sounds, not like the previous entry we had to set the notification on the sensor directly.
BONUS TRACK: Sound of tweet tweet when disabling the alarm
I don’t think we need to explain it, but if when we create automation, the moment we select between ‘It’s activated,’ It’s connected ‘or’ It’s disabled ‘we choose this last option, then we can select the HomePod and add the noise to disable the alarm of the cars years ago (
00 & itsct = mobilenationspremier & at = 1000l33GT & irgwc = 1 & aosid = p239 & cid = aos-us-aff-ir & irchannel = 13631 & irpid = 221109 & clickid = X5ZxkhxMDxyIToh2vQx9iVURUkBV3HwpS3ZsRY0 & ircid = 7613 «rel =» noopener «target =» _ blank «on the other day that Alarm was on the other album), so when we turn off the alarm this automation will be activated and we will hear that sound. All we have to take into account is to disable the option of Repeating the sound so that it only sounds once.
