The importance of operating system updates

You don’t know how nervous I get when I see someone’s cell phone or they leave it for something and I see there is updates to be installed. There are people who seem to accumulate them God knows for what dark purpose beyond getting nervous, or is it that are not aware of the importance of operating system updates? Today we are going to talk about this and why we should install them as soon as we are found.
There are 2 types of updates: the typical update an application where new functionalities are included, and system updates. In both cases we can meet with major changes (e.g. when we move from version 1 to version 2) and minor changes (e.g. when we move from version 1.1 to version 1.2). The larger versions often include significant improvements in the base system, security updates, changes in appearance, new features and minor versions usually
· fix problems that users have identified Once the version was already installed on many devices… the programmers are a smart guy, but they can’t test each and every combination that will then take place on the street, so sometimes a new version is less than a few days after a larger version has been released.
Application updates:
Sometimes a new version of some of the applications we have installed and we have the possibility of updating it directly. This update can even be automated, in fact, it can be automated so that they are only automatically updated when we are connected to a Wifi network, so almost without realizing them they will be automatically updated and we will enjoy the improvements directly.
System updates:
These updates pose a problem for some users who see that they have to download a lot of mega so you can update your phone. However, always include security updates, so we should update as soon as possible. Does this mean I have to download by 4G because I’m on vacation the 1.5Gb that my phone is asking me to update the version of the system? Well, it depends on the last identified vulnerabilities, but generally yes.
So you can get an idea, A few weeks ago it was published a vulnerability of the Bluetooth protocol called Blueborne by which an attacker could take the COMPLETE control of your phone, browsing your photos, reading your messages… okay, the Bluetooth has relatively short radio and we can also deactivate it, but both Android and iOS immediately published an update to address this vulnerability, so simply installing it we forgot ‘bad boys’ that were nearby and to deactivate the
Bluetooth. In other cases However, vulnerabilities do not have such a dramatic impact… for example, the latest version of iOS 11 for Apple used too much battery with some applications and had to release a minor update 11.0.1 to solve this problem. I mean, that all system updates will produce an improvement in our terminal, some invisible at security level and others more perceptible as in battery use or terminal performance… not to mention other features such as more modern icons, new emojis or other minor features, so
We should always update as soon as they’re available..
But… how do I update my phone?
This process is more or less simple but it depends on the phone you have. Unfortunately, Android users have a hard battle in this sense as Android mobile is not updated as much as they should. Explaining it a little fast, when Android releases a new version, it is the phone manufacturers (LG, Samsung, Sony, Huawei, BQ,…) who decide whether to send the update to their phone or not… and on most occasions, they assume that their phone will not be able to move the new version of the system with loose, so users will complain that their phones are slow, so that they will not be able to move the new version of the system.
and decide not to launch these updates to phones more than a certain time. In the real world, this means that only Android phones that are less than 1 year or a year and a half are going to be updated. It’s not cool, is it? This forces us to change the phone during that maximum period if we want it to remain safe… not to have the last emojis, but simply to remain safe! It’s a little worrying. This is the famous’fragmentation‘of Android that sometimes is commented, means that there are chorropotocytes Android versions around the world as users have more or less old phones where they have been able to
install more or less system updates.
To this we have to add other problem. Sometimes, a company which develops an App (e.g. WhatsApp) considers that its application should no longer work in versions prior to a given, so if you have a phone for example with Android version 3 (we go for version 8 at the time of writing this entry) you can no longer use WhatsApp because that Android version does not implement the minimum security measures required by the applications today.
With iOS the thing is easier. Note that Android manufactures an operating system that is installed in a lot of different phone manufacturers, with different components, different cameras, different processors… and has to work well on all of them. On the contrary, Apple has to make an operating system only for its phones, which it knows perfectly, and this allows them to create an operating system that moves with loose on its terminals and does not make the phone go slower… always within a reasonable, clear limit. For example, my friend
rs10 «rel =» noopener «target =» _ blank «> Caesar has a 2013 iPhone 5S that has been perfectly updated to the latest version of the Apple operating system (iOS 11), so it still has a perfectly updated phone for one more year… 5 years with the same phone enjoying the latest security updates and the latest functionalities of the operating system. Does any of my readers have an Android with 5 years to keep updating? Even Google-made phones are not updated directly when they are more than 3 years old.
If we are lucky to receive a new system update on our phone, we will appear directly the message to download and install This new version. This process takes a while. because you have to download several hundred mega and because you have to install it later on the phone, so I recommend that you make it connected to a Wifi and with the plug-in load cable. Still, If you have only 4G available and have a sufficient data rate, I would download the update by 4G. In any case, our phone will show us a message similar to this:
And after downloading the update package, the phone will restart and start the installation by showing us a black screen during the process:
A few minutes later, we will enjoy the new version of the operating system and, above all, the new invisible improvements in Security that will allow us to continue to have a fully secure phone.
So you know, once you have finished reading this Entrance, all to check if you have the latest version of the operating system and to update it otherwise!
